I have a little Problem with this one.
I am almost 100% sure to have the right solution. I could actually even list all possible combinations but somehow the solution is not accepted.
Is there anything left to do after calculating the combinations?

If your solution is not accepted then unfortunately your solution is not correct, sorry Smiley

The challenge has been solved recently (within the last 24 hours) so it is working as it should, and with 51 solvers and no complaints, I can be 100% certain that the challenge solution server-side is correct too.

Perhaps your calculations are a little off: remember aaaaaaa = 1   not  _ _ _ _ _ _ a = 1 Smiley
That is a fairly common mistake.
Hope you sort it.

I didnt want to blame you. Sorry if it sounded like that.
I know I'm doin something wrong but I just cant figure it out.

Did i actually understand the way this works right:
If I had to calculate the combinations for the string 'foo', would it work like that:
aaa->aaz->aza->faa->faz->foa->foo

Feel free to delete it if it gives away too much.

I don't think it gives away anything. And I think I won't give anything away by answering your initial question. The solution is absolutely what you are being asked for, no tricks here...

I can tell that it's quite easy to make a mistake in the calculation. Maybe you should check your algorithm against a value you can compute by hand, such as "abc".

Good luck!

Solved it.

Actually it wasnt a calculation failure.
It just not works the way i thought it would.
Somehow i thought 28 would be ...ca. I don't even know why i thought that. It doesn't make any sense.  Roll Eyes

Thanks anyways guys.

I know you didn't. I apologise if I made you feel that way.

Glad you solved it Smiley

Good luck with the others Wink

good one, i spent waaaay too long on this one because i was trying to do it between other tasks at work, but had some fun.  best tip i'd give anyone is use the example cases, for the longest time my algo was returning 2 for aaaaaba, that was what helped me end up writing the correct equation.  [EDITED]
